Licking the cookies refers to claiming action or skill in an area but in a way that prevents anything from happening. It is intended to conjure an image of a cookie plate, where one licks the cookies then returns them to the plate, rendering them inedible by all.

Yesterday (March 21, 2009), Twitter, the microblogging service, turned three years old. I’ve been twittering for two years now, watching the evolution of social networking and the nature of the participants.

My wife has a series of digital photos of me, lost in thought with my smart phone (Treo, Blackberry …) at many of the world’s great wonders.

I haven’t internalized the social ramifications of Twitter yet. My first reaction was “yet another time waster,” but then I thought about geolocation, social networks and the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech.
